Making tiny decisions with the help of the Holy Spirit

  • cabiojinia

Many times in life our focus is on the big decisions – decisions like marriage, career path, line of business or where to live. We spend weeks, months and even years thinking over these things and trying to piece everything together so the outcome is great. Sometimes we manage to do these well and the outcomes are great.

However, many decisions are almost brainless, and you put no thought into making them. Some are even routine, so there is no stress worrying over them. But these brainless decisions might be what could alter your life.

For instance, which tea spoon should I use? When do I enter my car? Do I say yes or no to an invitation to attend an event? Should I eat one more spoon or not? What road should I ply to work today? Etc.

As tiny as these decisions are, they can determine major shifts in our lives. They may even determine whether we live or die. I heard the story of a young man who went to the Alps to ski with his friends. After a few times in the morning, they returned to their lodge to take some rest.

Later that day, his friend asked him to go skiing again, but he refused, saying he was tired. After much persuasion, he agreed to go with his friend, but not immediately. He told his friend to go ahead while he gets done with a few things and then join him. Within an hour there was news that an accident had occurred in the Alps and his friend was among those dead. A little ‘delay’ saved him from that unfortunate incident.

Beloved, there are no coincidences in the spirit. He wasn’t more lucky than his friend. God prevented him from going at once with his friend.

This is why you must be led by the Spirit of God. You need to build a deep relationship with Him to the point where he dictates the tiniest of your decisions and choices. Even if he doesn’t expressly dictate them, he is aware of them, and permits you to go ahead or restrains you. Where he asks you to go you go. When he says stop we stop without argument.

Refrain from relating with the Holy Spirit only on things you consider major life decisions. Your tiny decisions could have greater consequences than those you consider major. Let your relationship with the Holy Spirit be all-encompassing, affecting all areas of your life.
