The position does not change the prophecy from God

  • cabiojinia

The position of the prophet does not change the prophecy from God. Also, the position of the man who visited the prophet does not change God’s word.

What God says on the mountain is what he says on the hill. If you travel down the valley, it will be the same. And if you end up in the forest or dive into the mighty waters, God’s word would remain unaltered.

In Numbers 23:1-30, we see Balak trying to twist God’s hand and voice. He took prophet Balaam to three different places, thinking that Balaam’s prophecies depended on the position from where he prophesied. Or according to the number of people that Balaam saw.

Despite these attempts, all the prophecies of Balaam were one – blessing upon Israel. Whether he saw thousands of people or no one was immaterial. The prophecy was not location dependent, as the God of the mountain is the God of the valley. Nothing alters his plans except he decides to.

As I read these verses, a salient lesson dropped into my heart.

Sometimes, whether out of a genuine desire for confirmation or a bogus desire for God to change His word that we are not comfortable with, we change mountains, run to different places, attend other meetings, and meet other people to see if something soothing to us could be said.

We do this because the original word from God is unacceptable, difficult, unsatisfactory, or seems too futuristic in its fulfilment, and so doesn’t align with our plans. It’s like a sick person who wants a second opinion from another physician.

It’s okay to seek confirmation from God – that is scriptural – but Balak intended to get a favourable word – one that satisfies his evil heart’s desire on the Israelites, even if that word is against God’s plan.

When we have this attitude of always trying to mutate God’s word, He can allow an evil spirit to speak to us. The evil spirit answers us based on the idol in our hearts.

The unfortunate thing is that once we get that word or sign that is contrary to the original word from God, we quickly believe and run with it. We don’t want reconfirmation again. We are okay because our predefined answers have been given. We label it the “true word of God” as if the first was a lie.

Beloved, what God told you yesterday is the same thing He is saying today. Adhere to his counsel and stop running around for something that soothes your fleshly desires.

God does not make mistakes when he speaks, and He is certainly not a liar.
