The imprisoned mind

Our mind is a battleground, where the most ferocious battles take place every single second, and until someone or something controls your mind, that person or thing has no full control over you.

According to a study conducted by some researchers at the University of California-San Diego some years ago, it’s believed that people are every day inundated with the equivalent amount of 34 Gb (gigabytes) of information.

These signals coming from various sources ultimately build walls within which we live – think, dress, eat, sing, laugh, look, talk, act & react etc.

So virulent is the mind virus that its effects are devastating, unquantifiable, metastasizing to every facet of the life of its victim and those of the people around him. Warriors of all ages know this, and so, they often play mind games with their opponents before and during the fight.

David versus Goliath.

A well-known example is that of Goliath of Gath who would come out to taunt the children of Israel during the war between Israel and the Philistines. The Israelites were so terrified in their minds that for days none of them came out to even challenge the behemoth to a fight.

Although they had the GOD of Israel who has a pedigree of winning every battle he’s been involved in, they couldn’t challenge Goliath because they were defeated in the mind. It took David, an inexperienced teenager with a small stature but a different mindset to stand up to the monster.

Freedom of Israel

On their way to Canaan, Moses sent 12 spies to the land flowing with milk and honey. They all but 2 came back with evil report despite seeing and touching the enormous resources in the land. And as long as they considered themselves grasshoppers, they wouldn’t win the battles lined up on their way to the promised land. No wonder God weeded them out along the way.

Also, while Israel was freed from Egypt in one night, it took God 40 years to free them from the slavery of the mind.  This shows that someone can be out of prison/jail in the physical but he’s still in prison in the mind.

Let me say something in passing – you can change where you live, you can change your makeup and the way you dress. You may even change the way you walk, talk, laugh, but if there is no change of mind you’re still the same person and your problems will remain the same. You don’t need new glowing makeup or some charming clothing, you need a new MIND. Don’t add new wine into an old vessel.

satan is after your mind.

Listen: Satan is not as interested in imprisoning your body as he is in imprisoning your mind.

When the serpent tempted Eve, it was not as interested in Eve eating the fruit as it was in winning over the mind of Adam.  His endpoint is your mind. Although he afflicts the body, all is geared towards having you imprisoned in the mind with false beliefs that keep you in his bondage perpetually.

Because there is no worse prison to live in than the prison of the mind.  He knows that whoever wins the battle of the mind, eventually wins the war. Now hear this: When we got delivered from our Mothers’ womb we came out head first before the rest of the body. In this God shows us that He wants our mind to be delivered first before the body.

Remember ‘‘…as a man thinketh so is he.’’
So, Garbage in, garbage out!

INVICTUS

Below is a poem, Invictus by William Ernest Henley, recited by Nelson Mandela while incarcerated at Robben Island prison:

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find me, unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

My Dad will always say ‘‘it’s a matter of the mind’’. I couldn’t agree more.

Guide your mind with all diligence for out of it are the issues of life. Proverbs 4:23.

Jesus grants freedom from an imprisoned mind.
