Satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth

  • cabiojinia

Imagine that God shows up in your room after your morning prayers and tells you, “My daughter/son, today, all the things you’ll think about and everything you’ll say, I will grant all of them instantly without fail, whether good or bad.”

What would be your reaction, and how will your life be today?

I think I know the answer; you’ll be very careful to think and say ONLY good things because you don’t want any evil over your life. You’ll be quite selective about any letter of the alphabet that is about to drop out of your lips. And when your lips begin to hurt, you’ll switch over to thinking about all the positive things in this world. If you eventually get so tired and sleep off (I doubt you would), you’ll find a way to force your dreams to be only about beautiful and delicious things.

I’m sure you won’t touch any of your electronic devices nor visit any social media platform because you don’t want any negativities at all. I doubt you’ll allow anyone into your room. You won’t even remember that my blog exists because you want to maximise today and shut off every negative stimulus. Why? Because you want only positive outcomes, only pleasant results.

Good answer Brother and Sister.

Now, if I told you that the scenario I painted above is the same thing God has been trying to tell you for years, would you believe me? What if I told you that God has been granting the requests of your thoughts and confessions for years now, would you call me a false teacher?

Well, your life is a sum of not just your handwork but also of your mind work (thought) and mouth work (confession). Most people think that life is only about working hard with your hands while neglecting your mind and mouth. Nope.

In Proverbs 12:14, we see that “A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: And the recompence of a man’s hands shall be rendered unto him.”

This verse basically says that the things coming out of your mouth are like seeds that get planted once they’re spoken. They grow and yield fruits that you will harvest and eat. If those seeds are good, they’ll yield good fruits, and you’ll be satisfied with good. But if they are evil, you’ll have to eat a bowl full of evil fruits.

But let’s take a step backwards; your mind work is actually what yields your mouth work. If your thoughts are negative, your confession can never be positive. The Bible says that “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.”–  Luke 6:45.

In Romans 10:9-10, we learn that “if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead…” the reward will be justification and salvation because “with your heart, you believe and are justified, and with your mouth, you confess and are saved.”

In Philippians 2:12, we are then told to work out our salvation with fear and trembling, “So then, my dear ones, just as you have always obeyed [my instructions with enthusiasm], not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence, continue to work out your salvation [that is, cultivate it, bring it to full effect, actively pursue spiritual maturity] with awe-inspired fear and trembling [using serious caution and critical self-evaluation to avoid anything that might offend God or discredit the name of Christ]”

This doesn’t mean that we gain salvation through our works (Ephesians 2:8-9) but that our daily walk with Christ demands diligence and absolute seriousness, with every carefulness and circumspection, “For it is [not your strength, but it is] God supports the believer, but it is the believer’s responsibility to do what he has been called by God to do. God who is effectively at work in you, both to will and to work [that is, strengthening, energizing, and creating in you the longing and the ability to fulfil your purpose] for His good pleasure.”– Philippians 2:13.

The above scriptures show us that our mind work and our mouth work are rewarded as much as our handwork. This is an understanding that we should have and live by daily.

The difficulties of life have a way of affecting us, attempting to alter our thoughts and confessions. They have a way of making us fill our hearts with all sorts of negativities – fears, worries and anxieties. The result is a mouth that continues to profess negative things over our own lives.

You are your greatest prophet. You are your greatest prayer warrior. You are your greatest healer, after Christ. What others think and say about you may not be effective, but the things you think and the words you say definitely have effects on your life.

Remember that “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: And they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” – Proverbs 18:21. Let that keep you in check as you think and talk. Plant great seeds, eat great fruits and be greatly satisfied.

May God grant you your heart’s desire and fulfil all your plans. – Psalm 20:4.
