Take only what is necessary for your journey (Part 2)

  • cabiojinia

This is the second and concluding part of the topic: Take only what is necessary for your journey. You may wish to read Part 1 of this discourse before reading the deductions below.

Genesis 22 verse 5 â€śAnd Abraham said unto his young men, abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.”

DEDUCTIONS.

And here come some lessons from this discourse:

*Not everyone needs to know the details of what God told you. Some things are best kept secret and accomplished, lest people talk you out of what you clearly saw and heard.

*Some people should only go as far with you but not farther lest they interfere with what God has told you to do. So, ask your servants and disciples to abide at the foot of the mountain, your fearful and luxury-loving soldiers to go home and burn your strange gods.

*Although they may be helpers, some people are simply additional loads on your journey to the realization of your destiny. They may be nice people but they don’t want you to go “too far” in your obedience to God. They can wait at the foot of the mountain while you go to sacrifice; you can pick them up when you’re back.

*Reaching your destiny or achieving God’s purpose for your life is not really about how much you possess as it is about how much you are willing to give up. How much you are willing to sacrifice to get there. Sometimes, it requires carrying the fire, knife and wood by yourself, at other times, you have to send your troops home. But no matter what it is, you must be willing to give up something. Find that out.

*Foreign gods are not needed when you are called to erect an altar in Bethel to the God of Heaven. Whatever is strange in God’s sight is not necessary for the accomplishment of your purpose in life. So, discard anything that isn’t akin to godliness and righteousness, burn them and move towards your Bethel.

*There are certain roads that MUST be walked alone. There are things or sacrifices that can be done as a group but there are others that need to be done in the secret, alone, away from the public eye. It is a place of loneliness and agony, with so many thoughts flying through your mind. But you know what? That is where you hear God whisper into your ears; they’re places of divine encounters and demonstration of faith.

*The path to greatness is always uphill, often accompanied by silence. You may even have to carry your own wood, fire and knife-like Abraham and Isaac. When you’re there, my humble suggestion would be that you remain calm in your soul and abide with God always. Don’t let go of God because He won’t let go of you, even in the silence.

*Not everyone was there when you saw the Light and heard the Voice. So, be careful when you want to confer with flesh and blood; they may not understand the vision you saw nor the voice you heard.

*Drop unnecessary attitudes and lifestyles that may derail your train. Trade them for the ingredients you need to facilitate your movement towards your God-designed Purpose. Hebrews 12:1-2

*If a relationship is unholy, unhealthy, antagonistic towards the mark that has been set, you may want to consider sacrificing it. It may be of value but there’s something of more value, and that is your destination.

* Some words build and others that destroy. There’s a communication that distances you from your original destination and one that keeps you on track. There are things you need to hear and there are others that aren’t necessary, even though they may not be sinful. Know them and make the necessary trade.

*Don’t be bothered when 31,700 out of 32,000 leave. God is purging, modelling and chiselling out the excesses. God can do mighty things with a few; for with God all things are possible (Luke 1:37)

*Your mission is delicate, the instruction is clear and absolute obedience is required. So, take only what is necessary and leave the rest behind. Let the servants “Abide here with the ass” while you and the lad go yonder to worship.

Out of a dead Abraham and a sacrificed Isaac came forth a mighty nation. Hebrews 11:12.
