God provides for the consecration he demands

  • cabiojinia

God makes provision for the consecration he is asking from you.

In Leviticus 25, verse 11, God told the Israelites not to sow or reap in the year of Jubilee (the 50th year). Previously, he had also instructed them not to plant nor harvest during the Sabbath years (the 7th year).

“The fiftieth year shall be a jubilee for you; do not sow and do not reap what grows of itself or harvest the untended vines.”

If obeyed, this would signify years of fasting for every human in the land and might result in mass deaths because of starvation. You can imagine what the response of the people will be.

God, however, anticipating a sincere but troubling question that would arise in their hearts – the question of what to eat during these sabbatic years – gave them the answer.

Leviticus 25:20 NIV
You may ask, “What will we eat in the seventh year if we do not plant or harvest our crops?”

In verses 21 and 22, God tells them that he will bless their planting season in the sixth year so that the yield will be enough for three years. This will ensure sufficient food supplies for everyone for the seventh, eighth, and ninth years.

The Israelites were to resume planting in the 8th year and reap in the 9th year. So, God’s blessing on their food supplies covers until the harvest they would reap in the 9th year. Is that not wonderful? Is that not a demonstration of deep care as well as miraculous?

God is a Master planner and a loving father who always makes provision for the consecration he demands. He doesn’t ask you to sacrifice while he laughs at your wretchedness. He cares. The Bible says that God delights in the prosperity of his servants. He delights in your well-being and each time he asks you to give up something to draw nearer to him, know that he has made ready a lamb in a thicket.

Has God asked you to leave your land like Abraham? Has he demanded that you sacrifice something legitimate in pursuit of him? Has he asked you neither to sow nor reap every sabbatic year? Don’t worry; he will handle whatever you anticipate as needs.

Let me add this: sometimes you may not see the provision immediately after obeying his command. But if you remain steadfast, you will eventually reap your reward. God’s blessing guarantees that.
