Sometimes, we are sorely troubled on every side by the wants and needs of this life that the load becomes … unbearable. You’re constantly thinking of family and personal needs; academics and career ambitions; unemployment and scarcity; health challenges and matters of the heart. The effect is that you’re drained physically, emotionally and even spiritually.
If we are left to ourselves, we want to come out in the middle of the street and scream at the top of our lungs, “It is enough. I can’t take it anymore.” Whether the street is full or empty, and whether someone hears our scream or not are irrelevant. We just want to let outside what burdens us on the inside.
However, in those emotionally draining moments, if you pay close attention, you’ll hear the voice of God speaking softly into your inner ears. You’ll hear the Holy Spirit whisper gently in your spirit. You’ll hear the words of our Lord Jesus Christ echo in the chambers of your heart. And He says, “… Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.” – Luke 10:41-42.
In the end, we see that only one thing is really important. One thing is what we should be troubled about daily. And the Lord Jesus told us what that thing is, “… seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” – Matthew 6:33.
It’s not a call for laziness or living an unambitious life. It’s simply a call to rest our all in God – giving all our burdens over to Him for He truly cares for us.
When it’s day, go out and put in your best. But when it’s night, please, stop worrying and go catch some good sleep. Rest your body, your mind and the muscles of your heart. For it is useless to stay up at night eating the bread of sorrow. (Psalm 127:2)
The night is meant for sleeping, except you’re praying, studying, meditating on God’s love and thinking of solutions to improve the lives of others. But it was never created for worries and anxieties.
Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning, says the Holy Scriptures (Psalm 30:5). The light of the morning will bring hope and a smile. So, rest for All Is Well.
When all fails and you’re confused on what to do, simply remember that only one thing is important after all, and go seek it – the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. Then, allow God to make all other things fall in place for you.
