One of the reasons Moses successfully led Israel out of Egypt was the uninterrupted access to the voice of God he enjoyed.
The thought of delivering a nation out of slavery from the hands of the reigning Egyptian empire was depressingly impossible. Going through foreign lands with millions of people crossing different national borders at once was suicidal. And to do this as a wanted ‘murderer’ called Moses was the height of it.
So, for God to use such a man and accomplish such a mission, He must speak to him mouth to mouth, not in dreams but plainly and unequivocally. No parables were needed, no riddles whatsoever. Clarity at each step of the way was of utmost importance. Specifics. Details. Guidelines. Constant verbal and physical presence. In fact, the pillars of cloud and fire were too visible to be mistaken.
God owed Moses constant reassurance. And Moses always demanded it whenever and wherever he wanted. In fact, at one point, he requested to see God bodily and his request was partly granted.
