If you are someone that carries transgenerational visions and prophecies, make sure to learn from Abraham. Although Abraham received a promise that he’d become a father of many nations, he wasn’t alive to see Jacob go into captivity nor was he there when Israel became a great nation. Even Jacob, that God changed his name to Israel, didn’t see Israel leave Egypt to the promised land. Joseph himself died in Egypt without entering the promised land on his two feet.
There is a tendency to think that you are the beginning, fulfiller and end of the visions and prophecies that you’ve received from God, not realising that you are only a part of the grand scheme of things and not the entire scheme.
Yours is a great role, yes – that of the visioner. And although a very important person with a very important role, you’re simply the first man on the relay race. If earthly life continues, you’ll need to hand that baton to someone else, who will in turn hand it over to another person until we get to the last man in the race.
To think that the vision starts and ends with you will be limiting the greatness of the vision you’ve received and the extent of God’s programme on earth. This is why you need to plan for posterity, for succession. This is why you need to set structures in place, that at your departure or when you’re unable to perform optimally, there is neither scramble for the chief position nor mass exodus from the organization you’ve laboured to build.
When God talked about freeing Israel from slavery and giving them Canaan to inherit, great men like Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph and Moses could have thought that they were the ones to accomplish that. But no. They had important roles to play. But at their exit, they had someone capable that took the staff till the next phase – Joshua.
Our Saviour and Master Jesus had structures in place before His heavenly ascension. Those structures clearly showed who would succeed Him and the method of selection for people that desire to serve in any office. That made the gospel spread far and wide even at Christ’s earthly exit.
God’s plans are beyond any singular person, even if you were the one that received the dream, prophecy or vision. A grave mistake would be not to train successors because you think that everything would end with you. You can ask Joshua and Solomon what happened to their legacies after their demise. Let me help you – the entire nation of Israel descended into chaos.
Thanks for reading. God bless you, and have a lovely day
