Jane: Ben, we’re finished, the enemy is coming behind us. I can hear his footsteps. Ben, what do we do?
Ben: My dear, I don’t know. I’m famished. My legs are badly aching. My back is sour. I can’t move again.
Jane: But Ben, we can’t stop now. We can’t stay here. That wicked man is coming. He has killed our friends and swallowed up our cities. Please stand up.
Ben: Jane, I truly want to stand but my feet can’t carry me any longer. Please leave me here to die with the rest. Run to safety.
Jane: No Ben, we both will come out of this. There must be a way out. We won’t die here.
As they both spoke, Jane tried to lift him off the ground. They’ve been running for kilometres in search of a refuge, some peace and comfort from the ravaging enemy. But none seem in view.
As they spoke, Ben sighted something from a distance. He didn’t quite understand what it was. But as seconds passed, it grew bigger, larger, brighter, more powerful. Ben couldn’t hold himself.
Ben: Jane, look! Look behind you.
As Jane turned, she couldn’t believe her eyes. ‘Ben, that’s the Light we’ve been waiting for,’ She screamed.
It was as if strength came into Ben; it was as though the aches vanished. He realised that the enemy may never catch up with them after all; that there is hope of safety.
‘We are alive. We will live. We are safe. Let’s go, Jane! There is hope.’
Light brings joy. Light gives strength. Light ignites the candle of Hope.
