Believe me when I tell you that the people who love and care the most are often those who have received so much love and care.

Remember the woman that spent her earnings to buy a costly oil just to anoint the feet of Jesus? When Judas complained, do you remember the response of Jesus? Exactly. Jesus told Judas that this woman is giving much because much was given to her. She’s spending much because she understands the value of forgiveness and sacrifice. Her deliverance from the hands of the men that wanted to kill her and forgiveness of the guilt she had for a long time were things that compelled her to reciprocate in her own way.

Zacchaeus promised to give half of his possessions to the poor and restore whatsoever he has gotten through cheating. This was a spontaneous response to the incredible attention he received from Jesus; he couldn’t understand how a sinner like him could host Jesus.

Apostle Paul called himself the chief of sinners that Christ died for. So, he was willing to die in Jerusalem in defence of what he believed. He received the love of salvation and didn’t want anyone, not even Peter to stand in the way towards the spread of the same message of salvation. He said that he would rather die in hunger than allow anyone to make his glorying void.

Have you met a true Christian? I mean, one who has been forgiven of his sins by Jesus and has given himself completely to Jesus? One thing you’ll notice is that he is willing to go anywhere in search of sinners so he can share the same love of Christ with them. He doesn’t want to enjoy such love and joy of salvation alone.

When you receive help and care from others, you feel obligated to help and care for others. It’s not that you want to satisfy your conscience, but you want to give what you have received. Despite the fall of man, the nature of goodness (care and affection) is still encoded in our DNA; God is love and since we’re created in His image, we have love in us.

It is difficult to turn a blind eye to people’s needs when someone helped you when you were in need. You’ll find it hard to look away from others suffering under injustice when someone helped you out of injustice. When someone showed you favour when you didn’t deserve it, you feel compelled to show others favour when in the position to do so.

Therefore, it’s important to show love, care and understanding to anyone you meet. It is the quickest way to spread love around and counter the hate, bitterness and anger that have pervaded our world today. The person you showed love today will return the favour by showing love to someone else tomorrow.
