Growing up as a little kid in the village, there were times when out of hunger or gluttony I went to pick some ears of maize from our farmland, only to discover that they kernels were still immature. Had I waited for a few more weeks, I’d have harvested some mature ears of maize and you can imagine how sweet it will be eating them with some pear by the fireside at night.
We live in a society where gunning for long term results isn’t attractive anymore; an indomie society that wants everything now and without stress. And this is one of the reasons some people get easily frustrated out of their dreams.
Patience is a virtue that we should covet. Even when you have received a promise from God there is always a waiting period.
Don’t Rush to the Throne
Let’s consider the case of David. After the disobedience of Saul, and his consequent rejection by God, Samuel was sent to anoint David king. When David defeated Goliath, the women of Israel began celebrating him as king and that angered Saul so much that he sought ways to assassinate David.
While Saul made about twenty-one attempts to slay him, David never assumed the office of the king of Israel; he wasn’t Absalomic in his quest. Yes, Samuel had anointed him king but he wanted it to manifest at the right time and IN THE RIGHT WAY.
There was an incident in 1 Samuel 24:3-16 where David had a clear occasion to eliminate Saul. David’s friends encouraged him to go ahead but he objected. “God forbid that I should raise a finger against God’s anointed” he responded.
Had David killed Saul, he would be guiltless before his friends, but he’d be guilty before the rest of Israel. The anointing of kingship upon him may never materialise or it may take a civil war before he’ll be established. Remember that Saul was from the tribe of Benjamin while David came from the tribe of Judah.
You see, don’t rush to the throne because you received a prophecy; appropriate timing is of the essence. The heir as long as he is a child is under tutors, and rightly so. Because he needs to learn the ropes before assuming the helm of affairs. Every promotion comes with its own storms and flood. Do you have what it takes to handle them?
Moses was too quick to act in killing the Egyptian that he saw fighting with the Israelite. Or at least, it wasn’t a good strategy seeing that Israel still saw him as an Egyptian and wouldn’t have followed him in the event of war.
Yes, there’s a prophecy or promise gone out from God concerning your exaltation but be careful with the way you get there. Don’t try to dethrone anyone to enthrone yourself; God takes care of that (Psalms 75: 6-7).
And be very careful with people who act as though they understand the call of God upon your life and His timing for its fulfilment. They may push you off a precipice.
Don’t Rush in Business and other Relationships
The same applies in business, relationships and life generally. Some people, out of the desire to cash out, have ruined great opportunities for growth and excellence. They have exchanged long-term inheritance for temporary pleasure like Esau exchanged his birthright for pottage.
Some would go as far as mortifying their integrity and values for transient satisfaction forgetting that the journey of life is a marathon; it’s not a 100m race. The great personalities you admire today never got there in a day; it took some of them decades of sacrifice and consistency.
Premature births always come with an increased risk of severe life-threatening complications. That’s the reason the obstetrician/gynaecologist administers progesterone and/or performs a surgical procedure to prevent it, except in some conditions where preterm birth is necessary.
May God grant us the grace to patiently wait for our fruits to mature (Psalm 27:14; Isaiah 40:31; Hebrews 10:36). You’re in for a bumper harvest.
