Several books have been written and countless videos made on ways you can become successful. Some even offer courses that promise to make you rich overnight. The quest for success is so diffused that there’s even a website named success.com.
But does success really have secrets to it? Is it really that difficult to go from having a goal to its accomplishment?
A few weeks ago, I was privileged to speak to some young people on this topic. So, beginning from today, I’ll be sharing, on this blog, some tips (secrets) that will take you from where you are to where you should be.
Before we continue, please make sure to share this article with someone if you find it helpful. Read and share other articles on this blog as well. Thanks.
Let’s go….
START.
I decided to make ‘START’ the first tip to underscore its importance. Several times people read books/articles on how to fulfil their dreams, but once they drop the book, they go back to who they don’t want to be and to what they don’t want to do. Because I created this blog to inspire you, I don’t want that to happen; I want you to practice every single tip I’ll be sharing with you on this topic.
The people you admire today are where they are because they dared to begin.
When the Israelites were busy crying by the Red Sea because of the fast-approaching Egyptian troop, God asked them to stop crying and make those legs work.
You see, no one can guarantee that you’ll be successful if you start; you may succeed, or you may not. But one thing I can guarantee is that you’ll remain in your uncomfortable, peaceless state if you don’t.
WHY YOU SHOULD START NOW?
1. You don’t have eternity to achieve your dreams.
Even Our Lord Jesus knew that the night will come, so He decided to work the works of Him that sent him while it was still day. The night is coming gentleman and gentlewoman. You better get going.
2. God walks with walkers, works with workers, does with the doers
but will never sit with the sitters nor lie with the liers. He never sleeps with sleepers nor slumbers with the slumberers. (leave my grammar alone). Praying is a futile exercise if there is no action.
3. There are many people that depend on you realising your dreams to realise theirs. Don’t disappoint them.
Sometimes we fail to realise that we complement each other. That no one is an island. That no person functions alone. That we’re here to contribute to the wellbeing of our neighbour. Any invention that has been made was aided by other invention(s) that came before it.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people will not feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone and as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. (Marianne Deborah Williamson)
4. God gave you those ideas, those imaginations so you can make the earth a better place, beginning from your city.
Those ideas aren’t for heaven. Heaven doesn’t need an architect; it has God already. It doesn’t need the best heart surgeon, it doesn’t need a person to discover the cure for incurable diseases because there’s no sickness there.
Heaven doesn’t need an engineer, a business tycoon, a software developer, a singer, a pianist, an inventor, a teacher, writer, filmmaker, etc. But we need these figures and more on earth, that’s why God made you. God made you for Him, for you and for us. Don’t deprive us of your precious contribution and flavour. Jeremiah 1:5; Psalms 139: 14-16.
5. You should start because it’s useless to have great ideas if you don’t implement them.
The deathbed is full of sad stories of great ideas that were never birthed; things that should have been said, books that should have been written, experiments that should have been carried out, songs that should have been sung, movies that should have been made, adventures that should have been lived.
Regrets is one of the killers of the old. So, start today, start now, start here.
6. You’ll never know how strong you are nor how far you can go until you’ve tried.
Most people are paralysed by the thought that they’re not good enough, strong enough, pretty enough, intelligent enough, tall enough, short enough, rich enough, educated enough, big enough, slim enough, in fact, that they’re simply not enough to make an attempt at accomplishing their dreams.
Newsflash: Nobody is usually good enough at first. We simply began to read, write, experiment, sing, dance, research, record, design, gym and we’re still not good enough.
7. Finally, you need to start Because Of You.
Listen, you’ll never fully respect yourself if you do nothing about those dreams. You may forgive yourself for failures but it’s difficult to forgive yourself for what you should have done.
I started this blog because I was tired of giving myself excuses on how busy my schedules are. I just went in. Will I run out of inspiration someday? Chi lo sa? The important thing is that I started. Per il resto, chi vivrà vedrà.
HOW TO START.
1. Write down those dreams and goals:
This is very important because ideas or inspiration can be quite fleeting sometimes. So, once you get any, pen it down. And paste them where you’ll see them every single day.
Detailing and seeing your goals daily, unconsciously impresses them on your mind; you feed your mind so much with your dreams that thinking about them becomes a pattern and living them a habit.
2. Plan on how to achieve your dreams:
Planning is an essential part of any accomplishment. Any achievement of consequence requires adequate planning; it’s like the foundation of a building. It requires sitting down, taking a pencil and paper, and dividing into steps what needs to be done to reach that height.
However, remember that spending most of the time on planning and little on execution leads to a place called Nowhere. Plan and, once you’re done, execute.
3. Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.
Always ask yourself “what can I do?” You already know the things you’re unable to do, so, you might as well just focus on the ones you consider doable and start doing them immediately. When you start doing the possible, you may soon discover that you’re able to do the so-called impossible.
Ignore the thoughts on the numerous things you absolutely have no control over and focus your mind on the simple things you can do daily. Write 5 to 10 things you must do daily and make a commitment to follow through no matter what happens.
4. Get out of your room!
I’m not a fan of being overly obsessed with your goal, but I’m certainly a fan of showing up every single day and doing the bit that needs to be done.
The only thing worse than starting something and failing… is not starting something (Seth Godin).
