What you see in others is often a reflection of who you are

  • cabiojinia

Some people get confused and make mistakes when they meet people for the first time.

You go to a business conference of young entrepreneurs who are trying to learn some new ways of building their business ideas.
After the workshop, there’s a mini-break and you meet a young lady at the coffee machine. And as a handsome young man, you approach her intending to start a good relationship that may lead to something serious.

As you’re talking, she sounds very interested in the discussion and keeps smiling at your jokes. You’ve seen a beautiful lady with the material for a good wife. So, you keep smiling and talking gently and intelligently to keep her interest in you high.

But do you know what is in her mind? An opportunity. Yes. And you’ll know this the moment she asks you what you do and other questions like your customer base, your turnover, bank sponsorships etc. All aimed at seeing what she can learn from you and implement in her business.

The conversation may well continue after the conference but everyone is seeing different things, all fruits of what they have in mind or who they are. While you’re seeing a lady to woo, she’s seeing a potential investor, advisor, someone she can learn from.

This same illustration applies to people who project their inner thoughts and character on others. Whenever I’m with people, one of the things I observe is what they constantly talk about; what their discussions are usually based on because that often shows what’s their priority, how they see themselves and who they are.

When you see a person who truly believes in humanity, there are chances he’s a lovable person. When you see a person who never believes anything good can come out of people, chances are that he is not good too. When you meet suspicious people, chances are that they also have something to hide. And when you meet a person who doesn’t believe in righteousness, there’s a high probability that he is unrighteous in his dealings. What you see in others is often a reflection of who you are.
