Please, don’t lose this heart

  • cabiojinia
blue lemon sliced into two halves

A few months ago, I had an opportunity to meet with someone who has been through it. By that I mean someone who has dealt with life’s numerous challenges that isolated her for almost eight months. So, seeing her ever-smiling face after several months was already a miracle. I came close to her, expressing how much I missed seeing her as I gently rubbed her left shoulder. It was spontaneous and so genuine that she almost let out some tears.

As I left her office and walked down the hallway, I almost teared up. Not only because of her challenges, but because that spontaneous gesture was therapeutic for me as well. Some experiences had almost made me change my stance on certain aspects of human interactions. I was increasingly becoming withdrawn and acting indifferent. But in meeting this sweet soul, I suddenly regained my heart.

So, while I walked away, I heard an inner voice peacefully whispering to my inner heart, “Chibii, please, don’t lose this heart.”

This heart of care

This genuine love for others

This childlike heart of trust

This empathic disposition

This thoughtfulness and being considerate

Don’t allow the world and ugly experiences to change you, making you indifferent, insensitive, and ultimately undesirable.

Rather,

still love

Still care

Still reach out

Still cry

Still pray

Still believe

“Buikem, please, don’t lose this heart.”

Here is me telling you the same thing. Never allow life’s numerous challenges to mutate the gentle, peace-loving and godly person you are. Don’t lose that heart of yours. For without people like you, this world would be insipid.
