Yesterday we saw the need to consult an instructor at the gym instead of assuming to have known it all. However, it isn’t enough to ask, you must be willing to follow the guidelines that he gives.
In almost every field of endeavour, there are guidelines. These guidelines are specially crafted rules that govern that body or practice. It enables the operators in that sector to know what things to do in various scenarios.
In medicine, for example, there are guidelines. Guidelines are meant to help orient a physician on what to do in a given clinical situation. Obviously, these guidelines won’t factor in every scenario that can play out in the life of patients because that’d be impossible; they simply help to guide the physician in his decision-making process – how to diagnose a patient, manage and treat him.
Guidelines aren’t meant to transform the physician into a robot, as there’s always room for the experience of individual doctors and the peculiarity of each patient. But they are very important because they have been proven over several years of research to represent the best practice.
Now, some people have problems with keeping rules; that’s a recipe for getting stuck. Indeed, some rules don’t seem to make sense, but you must follow them at first, learn the ropes, discover the loopholes and then improve on them.
If you don’t follow the rules, you’ll have a problem advancing to the next stage in your life. It’s good to be crazy with innovative ideas, but when there is no pattern to your craze, it becomes insanity.
