Sometimes you need others to see it for you.

I’ve had times in my life when I doubted myself – when I felt I couldn’t do a particular thing because I wasn’t trained for it, I lacked the required skills and was not ready to function in that capacity. This always happens when it is my first time taking up a new role that I consider too big for me.

At other times, I have doubted myself when my reality seemed different from the dreams God was showing me. In fact, my reality was diametrically opposite from whatever God was saying to me through his Word, prophecies, visions, and other forms of divine speaking.

During these periods of self-doubt, and some sort of imposter syndrome, I am encouraged when others around or distant can help me see the abilities and future realities I can’t see. It may take me days or weeks to believe, however, I eventually do and that helps me assume that role and function in that capacity. And in almost all the cases, the results have been good.

I am reminded of what happened to the young Gideon who was threshing wheat at the winepress. He was already defeated in the mind and physically. He had given up on God and himself. But here was the Angel of God telling him about his potential and the fact that the same God of his father was ready to use him to deliver Israel from the hands of the Midianites. It sounded unbelievable and laughable to him. After some tests to prove what he had heard, he eventually believed, and we know how this cake of barley bread tumbled into the host of the enemies of Israel and smote them. (Judges 6 and 7)

Dear reader, you don’t have to see it all for yourself. Sometimes you need others to see it for you. And when they do, believe them, and go for it. You are more than able, and you are deserving of the good that comes your way. Rise and function in the new capacity. God is with you, and you’ll conquer eventually.
