Find that one person that believes in you.
I was chatting with someone a few days ago on the subject of motivation. What motivates us could be so diverse because although we are all humans, our sources and modes of inspiration/motivation differ.
I could be motivated by a smile, an encouraging word or even a pat on the back. It could be taking a walk in the woods and hearing the chirping of the birds, breathing in the fresh air, or even reading or listening to the Bible. I could be inspired by a scene in a movie, admiring the beautiful faces I see while on public transport. I mean, we are motivated by various things that are so different. It mustn’t be listening to high sounding words and blasting rock music on loudspeakers.
So, the Philistines had set up a garrison over Israel and the entire camp was in a panic. Jonathan couldn’t stand such psychological terror by the uncircumcised Philistines and decided to do something drastic. 1 Samuel 14:6-7 (NIV) says, “Jonathan said to his young armour-bearer, “Come, let’s go over to the outpost of those uncircumcised men. Perhaps the Lord will act in our behalf. Nothing can hinder the Lord from saving, whether by many or by few.”
And immediately, the young man responded in verse 7, “Do all that you have in mind,” his armour-bearer said. “Go ahead; I am with you heart and soul.” That singular response was like a catalyst that further strengthened the mind of Jonathan to hazard his life.
You see, it is better to have that one person that understands your vision and believes in your dreams than moving with an army of fearful people who will discourage you each time. When you have people that possess the same vision as you, they fuel your vision. You accomplish so much although you are a few.
In fact, we see that in verse 13, Jonathan climbed up, using his hands and feet, with his armour-bearer right behind him. The Philistines fell before Jonathan, and his armour-bearer followed and killed behind him. 14 In that first attack Jonathan and his armour-bearer killed some twenty men in an area of about half an acre.”
Find your Jonathan’s friend; find that one person that believes in you and your dreams. It’s more rewarding, more satisfying, and more energizing than walking with people who discourage and dissuade.
Find that one person that believes in you; that may be all you need to excel and have victory.
