Oh, there she was – broken, dispirited, confused and in shame. She had visited many doctors and spent all her money, yet her brokenness wasn’t mended; the bleeding rather intensified with every physician that touched her. Her savings were gone and the people around opened their mouths only in mockery. She was living in darkness, away from public view and social contacts – just tucked away in her room.
But one day, she heard about something or rather someone that would forever change the trajectory of her life. She heard that Someone special was coming to her city. Someone that the people who met Him referred to as the Light that enlightens everyone in darkness. He was rumoured to be so powerful that He could cure any sickness and roll away any disease.
That news alone seemed like a glimpse of light filtering into her darkroom. She felt a little ray of light coming into her mind through a tiny cleft she had left open for hope. However, she knew it was too early to announce her victory over the dark enemy she had come to be surnamed after – Madam haemorrhage.
She had visited many professional healers before. Each visit felt like the last and each physician seemed to possess the knowledge and skills necessary for her healing. But in the end, all of them failed. As a result of these experiences, she preferred to hold on to this little ray of hope but without telling anyone of her bright hope nor of her plans to go see this Light.
Then the D-day came – this Powerful Light, also called the Great Physician, was moving around the woman’s city. As she stepped out on the street, she saw hundreds of people throng the Physician, each shouting and asking for something special.
“This is a special type of physician,” she told herself. “He is different from the other physicians I’ve met.”
So, she came in the press, and pushed her way through while saying in her mind, ‘If I can touch the edge of His garment, I’m sure this bleeding would cease.’
The more she pressed, the more others pushed her away. And the more she struggled, the more the pains increased. The more she pressed, the more her blood ran down her thighs, with its accompanying shame. But she wasn’t ready to stop pushing.
‘If this isn’t it, then my hope of being cured of this bleeding is gone.’ She told herself.
Eventually, she managed to touch the helm of the Physician’s garment, and instantly, the bleeding stopped. And the pains, shame and limitations that accompanied her primary predicament were all rolled away. She was completely healed.
Dearly beloved, the sight of light gives hope; it shows that there’s life despite the decay; there’s joy in spite of sorrow; there could be peace in the eye of war, and there could be Light no matter how thick the darkness has been.
That physician was Jesus Christ. He is the Light. He heals all manner of diseases. He is still here today. And He will heal you if you let Him into your life and circumstances. (John 1:1-5; 1John 3:8; Mark 5:25-29)
“And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.” – Luke 1:45.
