As long as you operate in this world, results will always command respect. People come for results, not for talks, except your talks are the results they need. When you do not have results, only your parents and people who genuinely love you will stay close to you. Other people will sit on the fence waiting for when your results will be visible so they can follow the bandwagon, and this includes enemies.
Something happened in 1 Samuel 13: Saul had staged a fight with the Philistines and divided his army into two companies – two thousand were with him in Michmash and Mount Bethel, while one thousand were with his son Jonathan in Gibeah. When Jonathan smote the garrison of the Philistines, Saul quickly blew the trumpet, signalling the men to exit their tent doors and come up to Gilgal for a fight with the enemy. This initial victory prompted the people of Israel to gather to him, supposing that it was Saul who smote the garrison of the Philistines. The initial victory had boosted their morale to fight.
When the Philistines observed what was going on, they quickly paraded a formidable force of thirty thousand chariots and six thousand horsemen, and many foot soldiers. Compared to the Israeli army, the Philistia army was like sand on the seashore.
On seeing this number of soldiers, the Hebrews became so fearful that instead of charging at the army of Philistia with their weapons, they preferred to run into hiding. They chose the caves, thickets, rocks, high places, and pits than swords, spears and habergeons. The few in the army that remained with Saul in Gilgal were trembling with fear.
Do you know the worst group of cowards among the Israeli fighters? Those who decided that hiding in caves and pits was not an option, just like standing with Saul was not an option either. This is the group of people that decided to cross over Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead. To help you understand, “crossing over Jordan to the land of Gad” is a nice way of saying that this group of people crossed over to the enemy’s camp. They became allies to the Philistines and automatically enemies to their brethren. This group of people went over to join the enemy because they did not want to risk death at the hands of the Philistines. And if that would mean helping the enemy to fight against their brothers, they were ready to do so.
But something else happened; something that shows that people will always follow the man who has results. The same Jonathan who had initially smitten a garrison of the Philistines decided that such fear and demoralisation was intolerable for a people who have God as their God. So, together with his armourbearer, he decided to attack the camp of the Philistines. And their plot worked – Jonathan and his armourbearer smote twenty men of the Philistine army. Once Jonathan accomplished this exploit, there was an earthquake, trembling and divinely orchestrated insanity in the camp of the Philistines, so much that the various groups in the Philistia army all turned against each other.
Once there was this pandemonium in the camp of the Philistines, King Saul and the few trembling men that were with him became confused at the confusion of the Philistine army. But the sight that they were seeing and the noise they were hearing was unequivocal. So, they gathered themselves and went to slaughter the Philistines seeing these were already divinely discomfited, with the help of Jonathan’s sword.
Then, in 1 Samuel 14: 21-22, we have this: “Moreover, the Hebrews who were with the Philistines before that time, who went up with them into the camp from the surrounding country, they also joined the Israelites who were with Saul and Jonathan. Likewise, all the men of Israel who had hidden in the mountains of Ephraim, when they heard that the Philistines fled, they also followed hard after them in the battle.”
The above scriptural verses simply say that on seeing the results of Saul and Jonathan in a victory against the Philistines, the Israelites that had joined forces with the Philistines against their brethren now turned against the Philistines, including those that were in hiding in Mount Ephraim; everyone came out to chase the Philistines. People who had given up on their comrades and on their God were strengthened as they saw the glaring results of the heroic act of Jonathan.
You see, people always want to associate with results, not big empty talks. It sounds harsh but that is the truth. The man who has results will almost always draw crowds, while the man who has nothing but words would command fewer or no followership. Fortunately, and unfortunately, that is how humans are – we want proof of what you are saying before we follow. Simply put, humans are generally Thomases who want to see the nail prints before they’ll believe that you(Jesus) has risen from the grave.
In Matthew 4:23-25, we saw that as Jesus taught, preached, and healed all kinds of diseases, people flowed to Him from all the cities because of the results they had either experienced themselves or heard of. His fame went abroad, and people brought all kinds of diseased and tormented people to Him.
At a point in John 14:11, Jesus told the people, “Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.” Jesus basically told them, “if you think that what I’m saying about my relationship with the Father is a lie, let the various miracles, signs and wonders that I have performed prove to you that what I’m saying is true. I have results to back up my talks.”
When John the Baptist doubted the person of Jesus because of his imprisonment, Jesus responded by asking the questioner to rehearse the various miracles He was doing to John. Why? Results authenticate my person and message.
What shall I say of the people in John 6? After they had experienced the miraculous multiplication of bread, and therefore the satisfaction of their belly the previous day, the next day they decided to go themselves in search of their daily bread. They were not necessarily after the other miracles that Jesus performed, they were after satisfying their hunger for a portion of food rich in carbohydrates, protein and fats. And if it meant taking boats to cross to where Jesus was, and to even question why Jesus would leave the geographical location of the bread multiplication, they were willing and ready to do so.
So, as long as the earth remains, results will always command people towards you. In whatever field you are into – spiritual, economic, medical, socio-political and others, your results will always attract the people who need your goods, services, and talents towards you.
Your results will keep attracting more problems to you, and as long as you keep proffering solutions to these problems, you will keep rising in your area of endeavour. The used and profitable gifts of a man make room for him and bring him before kings. (Proverbs 18:16)
So, whether in the spiritual or physical, get results. For results are proofs that you know what you are doing. And what you are doing is what attracts men.
